The synthesis,hydrolysis and electrochemical analysis of sodiumborohydride

  • Introduction
    Amount of different methods for reservation of hydrogen are hydrides, particularly is sodium borohydride (SBH).For production of SBH used Schlesinger and Bayer processes. Disadvantage of this processes are usage big amount metallic sodium. The aims of this research are developing : new method of synthesis of SBH without of usage Na , effective catalysts for SBH hydrolysis and effective method for it’s analysis.
    Methods
    Synthesis of SBH was realized by mechano-chemical reaction. The analysis of SBH at the present of ethylenediamine was conducted by voltammetry. Heterogenic catalysis for hydrolysis were prepared by impregnation.
    Results
    It was established that increasing of this parameters(temperature,PH2, reaction time) positively affected to SBH yield. In the optimal condition was (550C, 50 bar,4 hours) . SBH yield was 85-90 % and achieved purity of SBH was 95-97%. For the hydrolysis of SBH heterogenic catalysts containing Ni and Co metals on the surface of such supports as γ- Al2O3 and SiO2 were produced and tested.
    Influence of temperature , concentration of SBH and NaOH to the rate of hydrolysis were studied. Yield of hydrogen was increased in low concentration of NaOH and high temperature. In the VH2-CNaBH4 plots was observed maximum in definite concentration of SBH.
    Conclusions
    - The production of SBH was developed from anhydrous borax with out of usage metallic sodium.
    -The same reaction condition homogenic catalyst more active for SBH hydrolysis.
    -More sensitive electrochemical method for the analyzing of SBH in the present of inorganic mixture and solvents was developed .
