Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Education Activities at UNIDO-ICHET

  • Suha Yazici, International Center for Hydrogen Energy Technologies (ICHET), Turkey
  • Communities at all scales need to understand the concepts behind the hydrogen economy and place hydrogen energy usage into proper perspective for its effective and efficient implementation. With this aim, International Center for Hydrogen Energy Technologies (ICHET) is taking the necessary steps to educate the younger generations about potential benefits of the “hydrogen and fuel cell systems”.
ICHET has embarked on a series of educational and laboratory activities designed to increase the knowledge and awareness of students and advanced researchers concerning hydrogen energy technologies. Anyone wishing to be better informed about the role of hydrogen energy technologies enroll in these activities and benefit from the wider dissemination of hydrogen energy technologies.
ICHET is offering quarterly short training courses based around aspects of various hydrogen energy technologies. Schools visits are also employed as a means to share hydrogen and fuel cell knowledge. These activities involve direct communication with school management and teachers for training and curriculum development; distribution of hydrogen educational kits; and undertaking school projects. Internship activities facilitate knowledge transfer, exchange of information at regional, national and international levels and involve academics, researchers, experts and service providers. A monthly e-publication on renewable energies, hydrogen technologies and fuel cell developments aims to disseminate knowledge of hydrogen technologies to high school students in Turkey and developing countries. All the above activities will be discussed in details.
