Demonstration Activities for Hydrogen Transport in Europe
Over recent years there have been many demonstration activities undertaken in Europe in the hydrogen transport field. The European Commission has been a key player in these activities and has supported them through the provision of finance and policy support programmes such as the Research Framework Programme (FP).
HyLights is one such activity. Funded by the FP6, HyLights is a coordination action designed to accelerate the commercialisation of hydrogen and fuel cells in the transport field in Europe. The consortium in HyLights has undertaken a detailed analysis of the learning from past projects worldwide. (www.hylights.eu)
Such knowledge is vital for the future commercialisation of hydrogen and fuel cells, as the next stage of EU funding (FP7) should be available in 2008.
As part of this transfer of knowledge to the European stakeholders, a HyLights' communication package has been launched identifying the current state of hydrogen experience across Europe. On its website www.h2moves.eu ("Hydrogen moves you") HyLights is displaying both previous and ongoing European hydrogen and fuel cell transportation activities as well as providing information on how prepared the Member States and the European regions are themselves.Furthermore H2moves.eu provides services towards the various projects to foster the information flow inbetween projects. By joining forces the overall impact and interest of clustered demonstration activities can be significantly increased. Therefore H2moves.eu is also an facilitation platform supporting all stakeholders such as industry, politics, institutes and media to prepare for the next phase of demonstration projects and prepare the necessary transition towards commercial markets.
