The guide will leave the group at Riverside Centre, where there is a wide selection of cafes and restaurants overlooking the river to enjoy lunch (not included in tour).
The Riverside Centre is an ideal step-off point for participants to spend the afternoon, at their option:
- Get on-board the CitySights tour (hop on; hop off at any of 19 sites in Central Brisbane and the surrounding area.
- Walk to the Queen Street Mall for shopping,
- Take the Citycat ferry for great views of the city along the river upstream to the University of Queensland, or downstream to New Farm Park.
- Visit the Treasury Casino.
The tour involves an easy walk of 3 kilometres (2 miles) from the Conference Centre to Riverside Centre. Comfortable shoes, sunglasses and a hat are recommended.
Walking Tour Option 2
After meeting at the Conference Centre, the group will stroll through Southbank Parklands (past cafes and shops and along the river), past the Queensland Museum, Art Gallery and Queensland Library to the Gallery of Modern Art. The group will then take a tour of the architecturally impressive Gallery. The guide will leave the group at the Gallery to enjoy lunch (not included in tour) at one of the excellent restaurants and cafes in the Gallery and adjacent Cultural Centre precinct.
The Gallery of Modern Art is an ideal step-off point for participants to:
- Spend the afternoon in the Queensland Museum, Art Gallery or even (really) in the newly refurbished Queensland Library,
- Walk across the river to the Treasury Casino or the Queen Street Mall for shopping,
- Walk back to Southbank and get on board the Citycat Ferry for great views of the city along the river upstream to the University of Queensland, or downstream to New Farm Park.
